Interseismic strain around a vertical strike-slip fault
Overview. This is a mechanical experiment aiming to
reproduce the deformation field around a deep slipping fault as described for
example in the Savage and Burford paper (J.Geophys. Res., 78, 832-845, 1973).
The cross-section model corresponds to the following
design and face numbering
according to the following Adeli iessai
and jessai files. Three kinds of boundary
conditions have been tested : lateral (faces 2 and 12), lateral and basal (faces
3 and 11), lateral, basal and the deep fault (4 and 10). Note that antiplane
boundary conditions must be used.
Results. As shown by the deformation
map on the vertical
cross-section and the interseismic velocity
profile, only the later
experiment with all faces constrained reproduces well the analytical solution of
a screw dislocation.
